How do customers know about the replacement of the meter?
We will inform you in writing around 14 days before the meter is replaced. You do not need to be present during the replacement. The power supply will be interrupted for five to ten minutes.
What changes for customers with a
smart meter?
Practically nothing. Regular on-site readings are no longer necessary once the meter is integrated into our system. This can take some time after installation. From then on, the smart meter automatically transmits the consumption levels to the IBC via the power lines.
From then on, the consumption figures can also be viewed online on the customer portal.
Am I charged for changing to a smart meter?
No, the installation is free for IBC customers
Is the data protected and safe?
We take data protection and data security seriously. That is why we comply with the relevant laws and standards. The smart meters send data encrypted and without names or addresses. The link to the customer data only takes place in the IBC billing systems.
Advantages of the smart meter
Faster and more efficient reading of electricity, water, gas or heat consumption than with conventional meters.
In the future, customers will be able to view their current consumption data online and thus use or save energy more consciously.
The framework conditions for a liberalised electricity market are met.
A building block for the energy future
The smart meter makes households ready for the energy network of the future. All Swiss electricity suppliers are legally obliged to replace at least 80% of conventional electricity meters with intelligent measuring systems by the end of 2027.
The electronic meter measures the electricity consumption and feed-in, stores the associated values and transmits them to the grid operator. Smart meters are an important building block for the energy grid of the future.
